With a population density of approximately 793 people per square mile, the territory's urban areas have relatively good access to healthcare services. However, the territory's rural areas and outer islands face significant barriers to accessing healthcare services, including limited transportation options and a lack of specialized healthcare providers. Unlike neighboring island territories, the US Virgin Islands have a unique cultural context, with a mix of African American, Caribbean, and European influences. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate an understanding of the territory's cultural context and propose outreach and education strategies that are tailored to the territory's unique needs. Funding amounts range from $100,000 to $300,000, depending on the scope and scale of the proposed project. ## Eligibility Criteria in the US Virgin Islands Applicants must be registered non-profit organizations or government agencies with experience providing healthcare services in the US Virgin Islands. ## Cultural Competence in the US Virgin Islands ALS community outreach and education efforts must be culturally sensitive to be effective. ## Outreach Strategies in the US Virgin Islands The grant prioritizes projects that leverage existing community networks and partnerships to reach underserved populations.
